GMC Sierra; Good or Bad Buy?

Right now i drive a 2001 Oldsmobile alero that kkb's at aprox. $3k and i hunt and enjoy the outdoors, so i need a truck. I would rather not take out a loan, and right now i have 5k at my disposal once i sell my car. I want a 4x4, V8, full sized extended cab. I found a gmc sierra with 170,000 miles on it, it is a 4x4 5.7 liter V8, with a tow package and everything that i need. The person wants $4500 for it, and i am a senior in high school, and i want it to last atleast 5 years, which for me equates to about 40,000 miles at the most. Will this truck last? Is it worth $4500? and if it is worth the buy, would i get enough use out of it to make aftermarket exhaust, and tires worth a buy?

i would kill for one of those...omg 5.7 4x4 drooollll. yes u can probably find one on craigslist with less miles for about the same money tho. id buy one if i had the money tho. those were some of the toughest trucks ever made, you could beat them to hell and back and they wont quit. i no a guy with 325,000 miles on the original engine and trans not showing any signs of stopping either.

hire a pre purches-inspectoc to help you if is in good condition. pre-purches inspecto will tell you if is worth that amount. i want to buy a new 2009 gmc sierra,4x4,v8, lift,four door. think if this truck will benefit you and if u like it go for it because money comes and go.

i like the new gmc sierra 2009, becuse i like lift truck with high performance parts.the new body is what makes it unique and the space in side is wide enough to fit people. the thing is i dont know how long will the engine will last, trasmission durability, cost of suspesion,good braking system,differencial performace. crash rating are reliable on what the corporation say. if i get one it would have four door,4x4,v8,luxury interior.

That's a good buy, but have the truck service from bump to bumper. Not knowing how the service life of the trucks history, it would be a good thing to service the whole drive train. Change the front and rear diff fluid, transmission and transfer case fluids. When servicing the transmission, have the transmission shop replace your boost valve, there only $45.00 and it's a good insurance to your transmission. As years go buy the springs in the boost valve weakens making your transmission fluid pressure drop which is the cause of most transmission failure, i replace mine every second service intervals. To get more add HP out of your engine, remove the throttle blade restriction plate. You can do this by removing the two torque screws on top of the throttle body shaft, once the screw has been removed. Push the throttle body blade open and pull straight up, it may be seized with carbon so it's a good thing to clean the throttle body first with throttle body cleaner. Once the blade is off you can remove the thin restriction plate from the blade and fill in the three holes or just cut the restriction portion from the blade and grind down to a smooth service. Reinstall the throttle blade and use lock tight on the two torque screws, and you can also remove the screen in front of the MAF sensor. Remove the MAF sensor, place it on a bench screen down and with a Flathead screw driver not to touch the filament. Punch out the screen by tapping the screw driver with a hammer, this will make a difference that you can feel and the best thing is. It cost nothing to do other then your time. bad advice!!!!!!! gmc is way better than any ford i ever owned. And they cost to much to repair( and need repairing alot).
