I have a 97 sierra 3500 turbo diesel dually that has been having problems with the headlights and markers not coming on when swithed. I replaced the switch because it was getting hot and not lighting up. I can get the lights to go on by popping the dash and moving the plug to the switch. But when driving for about half hour the lights kick down into the daytime lights and I loose highbeams. I just now took the dash bezel off to get to the switch and find 2 wires fused together from the switch back about 1 inch and another wire that is yellow but near the switch has turned brown to about an inch back....is it possible to cut and splice in new wire here? The 2 that r fused r orange and a brown they r the top 3 wires on the swith if that helps......any and all info would be great thank you

Do you have fog lights? Did it pop a fuse? I have only the manual for a 99 Jimmy and it shows the brown wire energizing the fog lights and yellow energizing the high and low beam.

Unless the wires are totally cooked, you should be able to separate the wires, put some elect tape between them to keep from touching one another for testing. Or you can replace the burnt sections just as you were saying. After you've done either/or ; turn on switch and touch a finger or the back of your hand (if possible) to feel for heat from the wires. If it's warm or burns, your problem is downstream of the switch

well sounds like you have a bad termal in the head light switch plug. This would cause a bad connection and that would cause heat.

Go to the dealer and get a new plug for the head light switch and wire it in.

Good luck
