Picked up my 1984 Suburban K2500 Diesel today. As the seller was showing me features, he pointed to exhaust temp and boost gauges, saying he didn't know what those were supposed to be. I told him they're for turbos, and he told me the rig had a turbo. First I heard of it, he having neglected to include that in the description.
Opened the hood, and sure enough. Wow, bonus.
There are no markings on the turbo. It's a chintzy looking thing, with a round plenum that sits on top of the intake manifold. It has a K&N filter. I'm on the road on the way home without any way to post a picture right now, so be thinking about it.
I can tell you the turbo was on it when he bought the rig in June 1986, and I can also tell you that no turbo was offered by the factory in any literature I've seen, including the dealer brochure and vehicle information kit.
One more thing. What the heck is a Digitar? You'll almost have to see a picture of this deal. It was very professionally fitted into the front of the console, and has a keypad similar to a telephone. The wiring from the back is disconnected, so no chance to see where it led. Its installed position puts it right behind the CB radio the seller also forgot to mention. Could it have anything to do with that? Pictures coming, I promise.
Any ideas? Thanks.
