Im a first time owner of my 1995 gmc k1500 suburban. Its got the 6.5 turbo diesel. I just recently purchased it and im already having an issue. I was driving down the road at 55 mph. With the cruise on and it died.i had to put it in neutral and start it while coasting down the road, ( at night) the lights stayed on, and it started back up.then it did again 2 more times accelerating to 50mph and cruising at 30mph. All my gages were fine except my battery gage was at 11 while driving and even at an idle. I've been told it could be my alternator, or a bad ground.. like to know something asap.

Yes it sounds like a low vaoltage problem. Check your voltage at to battery with the truck running. Anything below 13.5 volts and you know that your alternator is not producing.

If this is the case check all your battery connections, they should be clean (no corrosion) and tight, and on that vehicle you will have two batteries to check. Also check the output connection from the alternator for the same thing.

The other thing to check at the alternator is the regulator connection, this is in the 4 pin plug-in connector that is plugged into the alt. Pin(s) should be clean and the wiring to pin cannot be broken at pin.

You will also want to look at the ground side of your battery where it connects to to frame and to the engine block.
