how can gas get in my oil?I have 1993 GMC Jimmy,6cyl.vortex engine CPI

fuel system has4.3Lengine?
it was in shop to replace ignition because key would not come out and it was running.Dealer replaced but since then,it has had problems.Check Engine Light coded for 13 (O2 sensor) and it smells like gas and floods and then it was discovered that gas was in my oil.I was told that it could blow up so I have not cranked it in over a month.I do not want to get blowed up.I have not replaced the o2 sensor. Does anyone know if that is why I have gas in my oil.Please help me on this.

The engine will not blow up and don't let the engine sit too long, the gas in the gas tank will eventually turn in to varnish due to oxidation and that would be a very costly repair. What you described is the fuel pressure regulator has gone bad and leaking in to your intake manifold and will need to be replaced. I once own a 94 S-10 Blazer code W engine, and mine did the very same thing. What it turned out to be was the fuel pressure regulator was leaking fuel at a steady drip. Once I removed the upper plenum, I discovered about an inch of fuel that had leaked down from it. To replace the regulator, you must replace the whole spider assembly, as its not serviceable, and must be replaced as an assembly. All that excess fuel will cause other problems such as the EGR to start sticking, and the O-2 sensor to stop working properly too. Good luck and NAPA or Parts Source i believe has a replacement and take under 1 hour to replace from start to finish with clean up time, don't forget the new gasket.
