I have a 98 sonoma with the 4.3 V6 and I need to know how to check the coil pack. It threw a po 300 code and I took it in to be checked and was told that all electrical parts have checked out and the only thing that would cause it is the timing chain. I had the timing chain replaced and the cam sensor and it fixed about 70% of the problem. The only other things that are left are the fuel injectors, coil or egr valve from what I have found out. It has new plugs, wires, fuel filter and pcv valve. So far none of this has helped much. It has the edi (enhanced distributor ignition) and I need to know how to check it. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Your coil is good, if it had issues, you will not get the engine started or running. P0300 code is multiple misfire. It's common for the injectors to get dirty with carbon and will need to be cleaned. Here is a link that should help you understand better what i am trying explain. ;) http://members.shaw.ca/betterthanyoutoo/Sticking Poppet.htm

Good luck and keep us posted.

Would it be better to take the truck into a dealership to have this procedure performed or can any garage that does cleaning be ok? I have already ran two full tanks of gas with seafoam in both of them and still have the same problem. Thanks for the replie.

Dealer is your best bet since they are aware of this issue and will have the tools to do a proper injector cleaning. Before you go and do that, try cleaning your MAF sensor, you can buy a can of the MAF cleaner at most Auto Parts store like Auto Zone and Parts Source.

Good luck and keep us posted.

will do.It might be a month before the cleaning, but I can do the maf sensor cleaning here within the next few days. Will post when all is done and hopefully it will be fixed.
