alright, so im looking to buy a gmc sierra.
and i found a 1999 v8 z71 extended cab
it has 145000 miles on it, and its in great condition, clean carfax.
how many miles do you think it will last til i have MAJOR problems other than regular maintenence (ie: tires, oils, spark plugs, stuff like that)
thank you
oh yeah, ill pretty much be doing nothing but highway driving, occasional city driving

depends how harsh the previous owner of the vehicle was,and how he kept up with maintenence, depends on how harsh you will be on it and keep up with maintenence. what kind of driving conditions such as normal or severe operating conditions.(stop and go traffic, in dirt or offroad or dusty enviroments)

As long as you maintain it.

I have a vehicle at 229k, and 300k.

145k is basically nothing.

If you keep up with proper maintenance, don't go cheap, and no random acts of God happen to it, it will outlast you.

But keep in mind, miles don't tell you condition, any more than age tells you the health of a person. Find out the vehicle's history. Ignore the odometer.

Edit: Oh yeah, Highway driving means nothing. Think about it. You're at higher speeds, higher gears, which means more friction when braking, more stress put on the car, etc. More road debris to be thrown at the vehicle. Contrary to wild belief, highway driving does NOT equal a good thing.

My 95 Z71 has 370,000 km on it. I replaced the motor at 365,000 km as the main bearings were knocking. Aside from breaks tuneups and and oilchanges everything else is original.
