I've got an 1998 GMC Sierra 1500 (1/2 ton), 4WD. Last summer everything was done brand new on the brakes due to the shop screwing up and putting in the wrong fluid. All the lines are new, shoes and drums are new, etc. All told about $5000 CDN worth of work.
So now, one year later, my mechanic (different shop) is telling me that my truck needs new shoes and drums, about $900 CDN worth of work. I don't believe that my shoes have worn 50% in the front and 80% in the back in the 20,000/30,000kms since they were put on. How often should shoes and drums be replaced on this type of vehicle? Any other advice you can offer me?
