Had a family member who just bought a new GMC without realizing it was only two wheel drive, and we live in a heavily snowed in area. How well...or bad do these do in the snow

Work quiet well in the snow, my dad's got a 05 Yukon and I'd say only use the 4wd less then 10% through out the winter here in Ontario Canada. The other 10% is when there is a large snow drift at the bottom of the driver way that is higher then the bumper or if we know the road is ice covered at the sky hills.

The rear end is limited slip and will always have power to the wheel that has traction. ;)

I had no problems with my C1500 up in northern Ontario. It all comes down to tires. Softer tread tired will grip better (think winter tires) but you can also get a moderate to aggressive tread, such as the Michelin LTX AT2 with some sidewall bite. Don't get mud terrains or you'll get yourself stuck more than you'll be moving. It's a big mistake a lot of people make unless you plan to run heavy, or tow a trailer where the hitch weight will help dig the wheels down for added traction.

having an LSD in back is a definite bonus!
