I have a 89 GMC Sierra C1500 truck and the transmission wont shift from 1st

to 2nd but the rest are fine. HELP? Any idea what it might be or how to fix it.
Its an automatic v8. For awhile it would just have a lil delay before switching now it wont switch into the next gear. All the other one are fine i dont think i need a new transmission i just was trying to get some advice for when i take it in.

If it's manual, check the linkage. If it's automatic, one of the bands could be loose or broken.

I'm not sure if it works the same as the old turbo 400 tranny's, but the governer on the transmission may have went. I had this happen once and when I pulled out the governor the plastic gear was shaped like an apple core instead of a cylinder.
