I have a 96 gmc sonoma.the service engine light came on and ive lost power?

when accelerating from a dead stop ive lost about 40% of the power at full throttle.The engine sounds fine (i.e. not missing sputtering knocking). what could the cause be?

There are to many things that can cause this issue your having. Start with having your Sonoma scanned for the DTC codes. The DTC codes will indicate what issues need to be addressed to the cause of your reduced engine power.

Auto Zone or Parts Source scan free of charge and can give you the recommendation to addressing the issue. Post back what your DTC codes are and be glad to help you get your Sonoma Running 100% again soon.

check the cat if it is pluged you will loose power. hit the cat with a hammer and if it sounds like it is broken inside have it replaced. if you get it scanned and its the cat you will get a cat efficiantcy code
