The cheapest way to sound good and not sloppy would be to get rid of the stock muffler..... I have an 01 with a 5.3 and i got a flowmaster catback system and it sounds great with a deep throwty tone. I didnt use tailpipes i just welded some turn downs onto the muffler... good luck
