i have a 2000 sierra z71. It has 172000 miles on it. The motor is strong as hell, the tranny not so much and the rear end well... anyways it runs, well enough. point is I own the damn thing, title and all. I'm young and own a business, land oriented.
This truck has a serious rust infection. this thread I am starting is specifically targeting a "cross member" piece of the frame. This is my most immediate issue with the truck. I looked everywhere for it. I am assuming it is a dealer only item, but its saturday and no dealership service centers are opened today. I am sure these faukers will charge me and arm for this "frame" piece. Fact is they use this same design on 2010 sierra models, and good knows how many other GM vehicles. I have no idea what the name of this piece is, nor the part number. All I've been able to do is go point at it. (ITS MISSING).
Yes my truck has 3 struts. yes it wobbles. DO YOU KNOW WHAT THIS PART IS???
Description... A METAL PIPE connecting one side of the frame to the other with a passenger side rear strut attached to it.. location.. it is in the rear of the truck underneath the bed... it goes through one side of the frame to the other side. It is just before the rear wheels (between the front and the rear wheels). if you look at the frame before the wheel you will see a hole in the frame with a pipe welded in it, this pipe holds the passenger side strut, travels over the gas tank (the gas tank is shaped to accommodate this pipe) and connects to the opposing frame piece.
I need this piece!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm trying to figure out what to do here. I'll need sleeves that will fit where the thing fit in each side of the main frame, and then a pipe that is shaped the same with the same or thicker gauge steel + a bracket to house the strut.
HELP!!
