If you have the repair manual for the truck it will tell you how to obtain the codes without a scanner. Under the dash near the steering column there is a plug that has a bunch of open holes and nothing plugged into it. If you take a small wire or paper clip and stick it in the last location on the top right of the plug and the third to last on the top right and turn the key to the run position it will cause the check engine light to blink the codes. One flash followed by a short pause and then two fast flashes would be code 12. That code is letting yo know that you have accessed the computers memory and when it is done it will flash code 55. Both of these codes are normal and noting to worry about but any other code is what is turning the light on for you. Hope I have been helpful.

Here is a link for you to retrieve your DTC codes, and it sounds like your fuel pressure regulator has gone bad or the vacuum line to your fuel pressure regulator is bad and will need to be replaced.

Good luck and keep me posted, be glad to help you get your Sierra running 100% again soon. http://www.troublecodes.net/GM/
