Does it run rough while you try to start it? If so, the distributor is more than likely cracked and the engine is misfiring. If that's the case you'll get engine codes...scan the vehicle!
Also, Open the hood and have a look around the fan belt. Check the belt out for damage and have a look at the pulleys. If you have a 2' ruler you can try to make sure the pulleys are all flush with one another. A bad pulley can wreak havoc with noise, but it shouldn't prevent you from starting the vehicle. Generally the idler is the one to go first.
A crankshaft position sensor might be bad. However, you should check for engine codes.
