idle hunt/surge

I just got a 94 2.2L sonoma and it has a idle hunt/ surge it also seems to have a large exhaust leak. I know the owner before me but on a aftermarket exhaust system. could that be missing ports for egr.. Could that cause the idle hunt/ surge. I dont have too much knowledge on the 2.2 engine any advice would be great thanks

Does yours have the catalytic converter on it? There is a censor that screws into it that will keep you check engine light on. That is the only exhaust censor that i have seen.

it has a cat no o2 sensor and I dont have a CEL on. I have just been driving it the surge has gone away just the exhaust leak I have now I need a down pipe to my cat

do you burn alot of fuel?
and i would check idle control sensor

Stare with the simple and clean your IAC and replace any vacuum lines that may be cracked or damages. This would also be a good time to clean the throttle body.

Your also going to have to fix that exhaust leak

I am going to start with the egr gaskets because I felt a leak there and clean my throttle body. where is the IAC located?
