On my 2005 GMC Canyon SLE with the 3.5L five cylinder engine I've been experiencing an intermittent no start problem. It occurs when the engine is hot or cold and it always cranks over fine, but will not fire up and start. However if I walk away from it for ten or fifteen minutes and go back to it, it starts and runs fine. There is no check engine light on and I hooked up a scan tool which is showing no trouble codes.

It turns out that the starting problem is being caused by the passlock theft deterrent system. Passlock disables my vehicle for 10 minutes after which it starts and runs fine. I probably will have to have the ignition switch checked out.

This also happened to me, until I had a copy made of my spare key which had never been used. The key now has all the original grooves, and I have not had the problem since. The key I was using since 2005 had been worn out and would no longer lock/unlock the bed gate or door lock. This may be the problem with your truck.

G.S. GENTILE,

Did you have your GMC checked by a dealer and they told you the, "passlock theft deterrent system " was the problem?
I have a 2012 Canyon with a starting problem, there is no rhyme or reason as to when it happens, morning, afternoon, night, I go to start the vehicle and I get nothing, does not turn over the engine. The securty lock indicator in the dash comes on, I relock the vehicle wait 10 min. and the vehicle starts with no problem. If I try and start the vehicle in 9 min. it will not start and I have to wait another 10 min. Because it does not have a pattern of not starting there is now way to pin point the problem. Had it into the dealer twice and they could not reproduce the problem. It is in the dealer now for two days and nothing yet.
