Is my rear end failing? What's that noise?

I have an 08 sierra z71 with 64000 miles. I hear a sort of high pitch whinning noise from the rear. It's hardly noticable to anyone else, but I notice the difference after completing a 550 mile trip towing a loaded trailor. The total weight of the trailor loaded is probably around 5000 lbs. My engine never ran hot. I'm sure I didn't overload the truck. I checked trans. fluid it was at proper level. Any one with experience on this?

Same happened to my truck.. to find out the rear end was going out. The more you drive it the more you will notice to howling noice and the worse it will get. The pinion probably broke and letting fluid out. Might want to take it to a differential shop or a transmission shop before it gets worse and shut down on you while your driving and lock up. Its gonna cost a pretty penny. Mine came out to $1800

Shouldn't this be covered with the 5yr. 100k power train warranty?

It's the rear end! It's covered under warranty. Hopefully this is just a freak thing and not due to GMC just having poor quality rear ends......
