Just bought a 5 speed 2001 sonoma. 133k miles. Needs a new exhaust. Has New full clutch assembly. New idler arm and idler pulley, and belt. Probably needs a tune up as well. Also has cold air intake. First things first I want to straight pipe it since it needs new exhaust. Any headers/ downpipe you recommend? Also I'm rust treating the whole underbody just make it immaculate and avoiding rust issues ahead as there is no rust on the body but slight rust on frame and such. I am take a wire brushed disk with an angle grinder and then treating it. Any rust treatment products you recommend or techniques? Also my budget for exhaust is probably around 1500.

I highly recommend Gibson Exhaust Performance Headers. For underbody rust treatment, you can try 3M 03584 Professional Grade Rubberized Undercoating. You can buy it from Amazon.

As for your exhaust, save your money and skip the headers. Install a 2.5 Cat back system or have one made. I've used a few set up from flowtech to flowmasters. I found the Cherry bomb thrush mufflers to work the best for its money. With the money saves on the exhaust, have your PCM dyno tuned and you'll have a better bang for your bucks.

As for the under your Sonoma, Just a good power wash after you spray it down with wd-40 to loosen up all the dirt and grim and then spray your frame with undercoating. You can pick them up at any parts store, even Wal-mart.

Good luck and keep is posted.

Thanks man. Yeah I've done my research on the exhaust and I think I'm going to just put a high flow cat and catback exhaust. I'll look into cherry bomb as magnaflow is pricey abd not sure if the "quality" is really worth that high of a price.

Ordered it :) Im going to spray on self etching primer after the surface rust is removed. Then spray on that 3m rubberized undercoating. Thanks for the response man!
