leak at egr tube

having problems with vacuum leak at egr tube and intake manifold. i have replaced oring but having problem getting it to seat into hole with it twisting. any trick or procedure to getting it right? do i have to remove the tube from exhaust and cylinder head?

if it is the oring coat it with silicone grease or spray
standard grease or oil may cause it to swell and fail
i have had the EGR pipe rust thru
the pipe will become brittle use caution
what year truck

my truck is a 2001 gmc with just one mounting bolt. i have now removed the complete egr tube and will try the silicon spray. i will then try to install before mounting it back on the cylinder head
