Somewhere I angered the sunshade Gods; this is my second post regarding a sun/moon roof shade failing. Or the bean counters trumped the engineers again.
This time the rear moonroof shade came unclipped and was open when I got in the car. The plastic where two screws hold the bar you clip the shade to had rotted through and pulled out. Two screws are still firmly in place, the plastic just disintegrated. I live in South Florida and summer is here but I have a feeling that is only part of the story.
Because once the mechanic went to order a new piece he discovered a NATIONAL back order on the part. Apparently it's not just S/FL. So as my rear seats bake in the summer sun I await the part. Could be months...just in time for fall. My hope is as time goes by whomever is responsible for this cheap piece of plastic improves the quality so we don't have to go through this again.
My suggestion to those of you with rear moonroofs, inspect where the two screws hold the fastener to the roof. If you see/feel any degradation you may want to encourage your dealer/auto store to stock up on this scarce part. DIY's may want to apply a couple of washers to back up the plastic.
