im trying to figure out why my sonoma makes a noise while in neutral as well as drive. it sounds like it's coming from behind the cab. it usually starts like a minute after i start up the truck.

The Heat shield to your Catalytic converter or the one on your muffler has corroded free from the spot welds. It's common to happen and the simple fix is to just remove the shield it self.

Once you get under the Sonoma, you'll find that the Heat shield will just be sitting on top of the Catalytic convert held on by one spot weld or not held on at all and can be simple be removed by pulling it off.

Good luck and keep us posted. :D
