My 1999 gmc suburban is making a grinding sound when I turn (L or R) at slow speeds?

It started with a very very slight grinding noise this morning, I checked the Power steering fluid Rez. and there was no fluid on the dip stick. I added fluid and it seemed to help. However, now the grinding has gotten much worse and there is some resistance when I turn the wheel very tight to the left or right.
Eventhough the grinding sound has gotten worse, the power steering fluid rez. is still full.

Your power steering pump may be failing and on it's way out. But keep an eye on the level in your rez and keep turning your steering wheel to full left then right, topping off the rez if needed.

There could be air in your system that needs to work it's way out, start with that and keep me posted and you can tell if there is air in the system by the inspection of the fluid on the end of the dip stick. If there is any signs of foam or air in the fluid, there is air in the system that needs to work it's way out.
