I was driving my 91 GMC Jimmy after a snow storm in 4wd and it was working fine. Then later i started to hear a rubbing/ squeaking sound and didn't think much of it. Then later on that night I went to move my Jimmy and the 4wd didn't work at all. I don't know what to do. Its my only transportation to school and with my 4wd out its harder for me to get to school.

It's common for the front differential vacuum actuator located under the battery box to go bad, but first check the cable to the front differential. The clip may have come rusted off and is an easy fix to replace the clip, if the cable is good then it's going to be the actuator located under the battery box and will need to be replaced and you can pick that up at most auto parts store like Auto Zone and they will have the step by step instructions for you to get the job done with common tools. Good luck.

were you offroading or what happened before it went out. there are a lot of things that could have gone wrong but i would try what Molson02536 said first.
