can't pinpoint the problem.? My 94 GMC sierra 1500 has a squeal coming from the front of the engine and I can't pinpoint the problem. Wierd thing is I can start the engine cold with no squealing, but if I shut off the engine and restart or restart anytime the engine is warm it will squeal like crazy. Let the engine cool and restart no squealing? Any thoughts?

Check for a loose belt, a noisy pulley, an exhaust leak or a vacuum leak.

The serpentine belt tension system has a bearing that, when hot, squeals like a pig. Shoot some WD40 on the tension-er bearing to see if it stops squealing.

Replace your tenson pulley bearing and your idler pulley bearing, when the bearings start to dry up and has no more grease in to it. It will start to make noise which is a good indication that the bearings will fail soon.

Repalce the two bearings as soon as posible, before you get stuck on the side if the road with out a Serpintine belt. Remember the one belt runs not just your alternator and power steering pump, but also runs your water pump.

Did you fix your noise?

I may have a similar problem. I took my belt off, started it up and the noise was still there. I have a 1994 GMC Sierra 4.3L V6. I have changed, harmonic balancer, A/C compressor, tensioner pulley, idler pulley, power steering pump, but the noise is still there. What did you do to fix your noise?
