the knobs are on for cool air the buttons are on... i was thinking of just getting some freon and see if that works. how do i add the freon? is this the right way to deal with this issue? thanks for your help

Filling it with freon would probably only be a temporary fix due to the fact that the reason it doesn't work is probably a freon leak. Take it to a shop and have them do a leak test and see whats up with it.

You may be low on R134a or your heater accumulator has failed which is common to happen to the Yukon's. Caution that if you over charge the A/C system will cause you to have poor a/c performance and can lead to additional damages in the system.

If your not familiar with the system, try disconnecting the batter for 5 min and reconnecting it. This should reset your accumulator if there is an issue there which is causing you to have heat come from your vents.

If it is low on R134a, you have a leak and your going to have to get that addressed. Do not use any of the stop leak on the DIY recharge kits out there, the stop leak will cause your expansion valves to stick and cause you to replace more parts to your a/c system.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Great advice from Molson02536! I had a similar problem in which only my driver side blew warm air after about 3 minutes of drive time. The passenger side would be COLD.

I could turn my engine off and restart, and it might clear up or it might not.

Living in South GA,this was a big comfort issue. After searching on the web, I found that disconnecting the battery terminal for about 30 minutes (another website told me to try this first) corrected the issue. I have had zero issues with my AC since. I wanted to give it a try prior to posting my success story here. I hope this helps. Good luck.
