need advice on 09 acadia waveplate issue

Hey everyone I became a owner of a 2009 Acadia not to long ago. after about a month of driving a started getting the wave plate failure symptoms. I do have little metal flakes in the tranny fluid and it jerks going into reverse and wont advance sometimes.GMC wont warranty the vehicle due to a salvage title. before I do the work myself I wanted to ask if it is to late to just replace the wave plate and be fine? other suggest I need a new/rebuild transmission. I haven't drove the vehicle ever since I notice the failure. thank you in advance!

also if I can replace the wave plate can someone point me out where I can purchase a new one.
