I have a 2000 GMC Jimmy as of right now with the good old 4.3L. Im pushing 240K nearing 241K. Not going to guess how long that 4.3L will last given we've gave it the best care possible since we bought it new. Im commuting to college about 25 miles away so that's 50 miles a day. My parents urged me to get a little car thats good on gas, however. Living in upstate NY we can get alot of snow and I also want a truck for various reasons. So that brings me here, im looking 2005,2006 Sierra/Silverado for my next vehicle. Gas does not bother me as I currently get around 260 miles per tank in the Jimmy. The Sierra im looking at is a Extended cab with i believe the 5.8 foot bed. Regarding power plant is the 5.3L, and 3.42 gears with the Z71. With this set up how many miles per tank am i looking at? Gas mileage isn't a problem, just like to see what everyone's getting. Thanks for your input in advance.

I have a 2001 GMC Sierra 1500 Z71 extended cab with 3.73 gears,5.8ft bed and a leveling lift and I'm getting around 17mpg highway! And what year are you looking at?

I was looking around 2005-2006. Thats not bad millage at all.

I've got an 06 Sierra Denali AWD. It has the 6.0L with a tow package. It gets 17mpg on interstate with cruise on, 15.5 everyday driving, and 11 when pulling trailer. I love the Sierra!

Wow thats crazy! I thought the 6.0Ls would suck gas like no tomorrow. I think the bad gas would be in the 2500.
