New member here, hello all.
I am looking to purchase an 82 Jimmy with a 6.2 Diesel engine. The one I am looking at has some old oil on the engine block, which in my previous experience with vehicles looks like a blown or worn out head gasket. However, I asked my mechanic what else it could be and he said something about a valve seal gasket (or something similar).
My two questions are:
Is a blown valve seal gasket a common problem?
And, is there a way to tell between a blown head gasket and a blown valve seal?
Apparently the cost to repair the valve seal is about $200, where as the head gasket is about $1200. So which ever it is will make or break the deal for me.
Thanks,
Tim
