i have a 94 gmc jimmy, all of the sudden the battery light comes on and the power steering stops working. anyone have any idea as to what the problem may be? please help!!!!!

Check your serpentine belt. Not common to have both your power steering and altornater go bad, unless your belt has broken off and chances are that your tenson pully for the belt may have gone bad causing your belt to come off.
