need more GVWR

Hello everyone, got a couple of questions for you... I have just aquired a 1987 GMC Suburban 2500 with a 454 , th400, 4.10's, oil cooler, trans cooler, 235/85/16's (load rated E), HD sway bars, etc etc etc..... My question is this, stamped on the door of the burb says GVWR 8900lbs.....so far the best i can research i find that the burb (Gennie) tips the scales at a little over 4200lbs...Does that sound about right? Secondly, I bought Gennie to be a tow vehicle for our new camper a 2006 29' flagstaff ultra light (5,800lbs). I know Gennie is CAPABLE of towing this load, but I also know that D.O.T. is being major peckerheads in this area and want to know what can I do (if anything) to raise that magic number so I can C.M.O.A..

I've ran all the R.P.O. numbers in the glove box and she comes back as a really heavy duty (in my opinion) vehicle, just want some peice of mind and maybe some documentation to have on hand.

Peckerheads win. Nothing you can do to change the specs stamped on the vehicle and that is what they are going to pay attention to.

You are right, she will pull your trailer with no problems. I have the same vehicle, one year older. Pulls a 9,000 lbs boat out of the launch with ooomph to spare.

thats what i figured pulled the camper the other day about 40 miles and the upstate of SC has got some great foothills/mnts to do some pull tests on lol

GVWR - A gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) is the maximum allowable total mass of a road vehicle or trailer when loaded - i.e including the weight of the vehicle itself plus fuel, passengers, cargo, and trailer tongue weight. I really doubt your trailers tounge weight is 4000 lbs. If you have a weight distribution hitch and brakes on the trailer you should be fine. I have a 99 half ton suburban and it is rated to tow no more than 7300 lbs. Happy camping.
