my daughter has a 97 jimmy 4.3 for about a week she would go some where and come out and her car wouldnt start, but the next day it would start right up. i checked her fuse`s and listend for the fuel pump, and i could hear it come on. i could spray starting fluid in the throttle body and it would start. so i changed the fuel filter but it still wont start.someone told me it might be the Crank Sensor, but that cost 58.00, and she and i dont have that kind of money to spend on something that might not be the right fix. so could some of you nice fellows point me in the right direction. oh almost forgot it wont start at all now, and she had a new fuel pump installed in september.

thank you

Sounds like it's the ICM ( Ignition control Module), here is a link that should help you and keep us posted. Be glad to help you get your jimmy running 100% again soon. ;)

The ICM or the Ignition Control Module, is the brains behind the spark plugs. The ICM tells the spark plugs when to fire and lets the engine know when gas needs to be released for proper engine ignition in fuel injected engines.

Sometimes if your ICM is out or going bad, you may be able to start your motor up nicely once and then when you turn it off it may not start back up. It can also make you feel like you are driving in a safari land it will shake and "sputter" so bad.

As mentioned it's free to have it tested at Auto Zone or Napa before you buy a replacement part.

Good luck and post back, the other issue could be a ignition switch gone bad. :(
