Hola Everyone,
My name is Mike and I and the Proud new owner of a 1996 SLE Sierra Extended Cab. I traded in my 03 Cavalier (Hated that Car) and my 05 Suzuki Katana Motorcycle for it.
It has been around 15 years since I have played around with a GM Small Block Engine, and an Automatic Transmission to boot.
I was a member on SilveraroSierra.com until I found out my 96 wasn't a real Silverado (GM800 Platform) based truck. So i been looking around and here I am.
Little Data on the truck:
Its a Canadain GMC (2GT starting Vin)
it has the 5.0 Vortec SBE mated to the L460-E Automatic transmission.
One thing I have noticed is that the truck is a bit sluggish. I did an oil change and it improved a bit. The transmission will not kick down out of Overdrive if i go up a hill (thinking it is the TV cable) I am waiting to see what a proper plug change will do for her.
Mechanically wise the poor kid needs shock work and probably a brake job.
I know my rear passenger upper rear shock tower is loose (two bolts are missing) and the steering dives from side to side (one or the other not both)
Just trying to figure out where to start getting her proper- I'm not out to do anything like lifting or overpowering the block - just simple maintenance to keep her on the road for the next few years
Thanks and talk to ya soon,
