I installed new ceramic brakes and rotors on my truck a week ago but they are grinding loud still. I checked the pads they are on correctly. Caliper pins are in and look fine. Not sure what else to check.

Did you put grease on the back of the pads? If not get some brake grease (not normal grease) and put a small amount on the back of the pads this will solve your problem.

ceramic brakes work best at hight temps. they have a tendency to sound like they are grinding till they come up to temp

Pissed off

I too put new rotors and new ceramic brakes on my 08 GMC Arcadia. This was just a week ago and my wife tells me it's making noise. Well, I told her that they need to come in... I dove it today and it sounds like metal to metal when applying the brakes. I know this is not the way it should sound plus I'm now seeing some small scrapes on the new rotors. I did put the grease on the back of the pads... anyone know what's going on here? I've always been a GM guy but beginning to think twice as this car is a hunk of junk.

Thanks!

How can that be the fault of GM? Did your buy GM parts and did a GM trained technician do the work? If yes, then blame GM. If not then blame the person who bought the parts and the person who did the installation. There is more to brake work than just installing parts. A good technician makes sure the parts he installed are matched to the vehicle, rotors are also important and mismatched parts almost always cause problems.

I have had ceramic pads installed on prior vehicles and never had any issues with them. Matter of fact my CTS performance Sedan came factory fitted with them and 20,000 miles and no issues whatsoever. They do not make any noise so it puzzles me as to what could making the noise on your vehicles. IMO its either the quality of the parts (cheap pads and rotors) or the quality of the installation work. Lots of brake parts are sourced from China so if that's where your parts came from, I would look there as possibly the problem. Just because its a well know brand, don't assume the parts did not come from China and they all source the cheaper lines from China. If you want the good parts you have to pay the premium price.

If the rotors are starting to score then there is a problem with too hard of a material in the brake pad or the rotors are to soft. I would pull the pads and calipers and check all of the hardware and take the pads back to where you got them if you see defects. As you are aware this is a simple job and if something is wrong it's either the new parts or the installer that causes the problem.

New brakes

First of course check all installed parts , for incorrect instalation. Check the smoothness of the rotor and look at the pad to see how much of it is actually making contact with the rotor. Look for the shiney places on the pad this will be the indicator of ware . Also look at the squealers these can be bent and cause the issue as well. I recommend scuffing the pads and rotors if all parts look correct then test drive there is also a chemical made by a company named BG that can be put on the pads to reduce noise . Please let me know what u find I'm curious to see what fixed it.
