Im at a lost and need HELP!!! I have a 1996 Suburban SLT with 237,000 miles. A few weeks ago the fuel tank was leaking, so had it replaced. After I picked it up it had no get up and go when I got on it. Took it back to the garage and was told that the pump was going bad. So i had the sending unit and pump replaced ( the pump is after market). I picked it up last night and it is still acting up when on the gas...... I was told that the after market pumps dont have enough pressure and can cause this. IS that true... Im lost and getting tried of throwing parts at it and then Im still having the same problem.. Any help will be great thanks

well if this is what they told you then you need a new garage

I have a few questions So was it ok before the gas tank was replaced?
Is the check engine light on?
How does it run under normal driving ?
When was the last fuel filter replaced?
when was the last Tune up ?
You say no get up and go..... so if you go on the highway and mat it(wot) how long does it take to get to 4500 to 5k rpms.

It ran fine before and when the tank was leaking, The check engine light is on but it has been due to a bad O2 sensor.
Under normal driving it has a slight surge but goes fine
Just had them replace the fuel filter yesterday, Last tune up was not even a year ago. If I mat it the tach only gets up to 2500 rpm and seems like it wants to go more but cant!!! I just cant figure out how it can go from running fine to this after they had the tank down twice.

i would look for a kinked fuel line frist. do you have a fuel preasure gauge? if not go to sears buy one hook up and drive ( wire tie it to your wiper arm) it and watch the preasure.

The garage said that one of the rubber hoses were collapsed. They replaced it but it still the same, They also put a pressure gauge on it and it loses pressure when heavy on the gas..
:confused::confused:

well then you have one of four problems..... A kinked line or a bad fuel pump or low voltage to the pump not letting it work corectly., or a pluged or installed backwards fuel filter. (check and see if the filter is installed right)

Now heres the deal... if they sold you the pump and did the whole job for you and you paided the bill. Then they should fix it for free as long as it's a pump. or something they did (i would fix it in my shop)

If you got the pump and had them install it then your on your own.

Do you know how much fuel preasure it has when idling? let me know

I got the parts and they installed them for me. I went to the dealer and picked up a GM fuel pump to see if it takes care of the problem...( Fingers crossed) If not then its to a different garage or last resort the dealer to figure it out....

So I got the GM fuel pump and dropped the truck off Monday night, they told me Tues, or Wednesday the latest they would get it done.. I stop by after work to get the truck..... Only to hear "we didnt get to it today". So now one more day without the truck.. Now all my moving plans are put on hold for another day... I guess I cant complain had the truck three years and have not had to put ANY money into it till this year..

Picked the truck up today, IT STILL falls on its face when on the gas heavy... The fuel pressure is at 50 when it idling. still at a lost they even cleared the code for the o2 sensor...

They never told me what it was while driving. They called and said that they dont know what else to check. I replaced the pump relay just to be on the safe side. Now while driving in it seems like it wants to go but dont. The tach goes to 3000 rpm and then it starts to act up again. I talked to another garage and they said if I want to bring it to them they would look it over again... My only problem is I cant be without my truck with me moving in a couple of weeks, its needed to move the big stuff.:(

ok before you said you lost fuel preasure when heavy on the gas. Need to find out if your still losing fuel preasure.

Need to know before i can tell you more info. There are 5 0r 6 more things that can cause this problem thats why i need to know what the fuel preasure is while driving at 3k rpms.

Go buy a fuel preasure gage at sears there not a lot of money.

Havent had the chance to find out what the pressure is while driving. It doesnt cut in and out anymore when on the gas. Now it Has NO POWER while driving up any kind of hill. It is now throwing a code PO102 ( Master Air Flow A Circut Low Input). I unpluged the maf sensor and it seems to do a little better. I was also mistaken about when the last tune up was, it was done alittle over two years ago..... with the moving happening it hard to really get it to the shop again, its needed to pull the trailer...

well not worred about the mass air flow sensor code yet. Want to know fuel pressure while driving so we can get to the bottom of this for ya.

The fuel pressure at idle is about 53-54, when driving down the road and step on it the pressure drops about 3 psi. The garage tried changing the mass aif flow sensor but it still acts up. They put the old one back in!

ok so i would say fuel is not the problem here. Now what i would do is caues a exhaust leak before the cats and drive it. Needs to be a good size leak but not open pipes. Try backing off the manifold studs if you can .(if there not all rusted up). Then drive it and see if there is any change.

How else can this be done, the bolts are all rusted! Can it be done by removing one of the o2 sensors?

you would have to remove all the 02s before the cat and drive it but not a wide open throttle. There not a big enought leak for that. Try it let me know.
