Hey guys/gals

I just did an oil change in my '06 Sierra 5.3 using a Fram filter. What I noticed is, upon checking my oil level after the addition of the new oil, there was no oil on the dipstick! That concerns the hell outta' me as now I am wondering if the drain back recesses to the oil pan sump are partially plugged??
Another thought after doing a little surfing on YouTube is, could it be possible that the new oil filter is defective??

Thoughts anyone?

THANKS!! :)

It's not the filter, unless your oil leaked out onto the ground . I don't think an anti-drainback valve in the filter will affect the dipstick level very much. If the oil is added to one of the valve covers, can you see any pool of oil in there ? That much oil pooled in a valve cover usually results in a lot of smoke from the exhaust. Is there evidence of oil in your cooling system , such as the coolant reservoir tank overly full ? Are you sure you added enough oil ? Sometimes new oil is hard to see on the dipstick. Are you using the same dipstick as before ? Is the dipstick fully seating in the tube ? Does the engine show it has oil pressure ? I don't know your level of expertise , so please don't be insulted. However, I've seen cases where engine oil was added to the brake fluid reservoir , the radiator, and the transmission. I've also drained 9 quarts of oil out of a 4 quart engine . The owner couldn't read the oil level because it was way higher than he was looking.
