Hello! I have a 2000 Sierra with 250000 KM's on it. Last winter I had no oil pressure and cream color engine oil. I brought it to a shop and they ended up tearing down the engine to get to the head gasket and heads. What they found was the heads were warped. So they got them milled down flat again and put them back on. Worked great after that. Well this Winter I now have the same problem. I have babied this truck since then and I really only use it for short trips to and from work and renos at home. I have actually only put on about 1500 KMs since those last repairs. I was told that it might just be condensation from the short trips to and from work.(hot/cold/hot/cold...). I think it is something else. Bad oil pump? Short in the gauge? And yes I did check to see if there was oil in the engine. Runs at the right temp. The coolant level has not really dropped, but it is blowing a whiter exhaust out of the pipe.

I'm not really mechanically inclined but I kinda understand how an engine works. Any Ideas on what the problem could be would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Eric

Sorry failed to mention it is a 1500 with 4.8 litre V8.

It appear the previous the fix did not solve the problem. You may have a bad engine and might want to consider replacing it. Heads don't usually warp on their own, the engine must have been overheated really bad.

Condensation from short trips is not going to turn your oil milky, they probably should have replaced the heads as I would bet the problem reoccured due to bad heads. There was a problem with some heads and they only solution was to replace them because they were pourous and allowed coolant to leak into the oil. Manufacturing defect, search "Castech' Heads.

Pretty sure the engine never has overheated, it was owned by a GM dealership before I bought it and the 3 years I have had it, it never has come near overheating. About the heads they did contact GM to check if these heads were part of that recall and they were not, other wise I would have replaced them.

Today the temp outside is in the high teens and I started up the engine and all was fine, lots of water coming out of the tail pipe. When the pressure dropped last time it was below freezing so maybe there is lots of water in there and it freezed up. But would that cause there to be no pressure??? If the heads were warpped again, I would have a loss of collant right? If its not making sounds and all the guages are showing normal operating readings, is it safe to drive my truck?

Replacing the heads again or a whole engine swap is out of my budget right now.

Eric
