1995 Sierra, V8. My guage seemed fine. Then I took it in for a lot of gasket replacements becuase of oil and water leaks (308,000 miles). Got it back and oil guage drops to 10lbs on idle and check gauges light comes on. Guage goes back up to near mid guage when accelerating. I also notice that I still have an oil leak from rear seal. Thought this could be cause for low pressure at idle. 2 days ago I noticed that when I take off down the road the guage peaks to the right. I then noticed that the peaking occurs at, and above 1300 rpms. When I cut back on the gas the gauge goes back to normal. At idle it goes to a little better than 10 lbs.

I'm torn between thinking its a bad ground and a bad guage. What do you think?

No one in this group can make an educated guess? I find that hard to believe. I have come to this group for other problems and I know that you people are a lot smarter than me. So, lets get that brain in gear. I need help.

I think that its your oil sending unit a the rear of the block. It's by the distributor on the drivers side.

When replacing the sensor, make your you get the right oil sending unit. One type is just for a warning light and the other is for a electronic gauge in the dash.

Good luck and keep us posted. :D

Thanks. I heard mention of a sending unit but have no experience with them. It makes sense. The guage is illogical for a pressure problem and a lack of ground problem and a bad guage problem. Seems to has symptoms of all...to me, a not to smart car guy.

I will tackle the sending unit. Thanks.
