hi just a few question? bought a 2011 sierra 5.3 in january, got around 8000km.use it too haul my 6000lbs travel trailer last week on a holiday. had change oil at 6000km ,want too keep truck a long time so didn,t wait on the change oil light. i didn,t have dexsos oil avalable was told by my napa store that a regular castrol gtx was ok, it was just marketing. now i had never really check the oil pressure gauge but seems too me that for a new truck half way mark(275 kpa) is a bit low? i was just keeping more attention on the gauges because i was towing. how about the transmission it was hot outside 32 celcius the tranny gauge would be from 75celcius to 85celcuis on highway.on a few times i would drive in a town for gas and while waiting for traffic lights and slow driving it would creep over 90degrees. are them numbers normal? its suppose to be equip with a tow package, but never really check if theirs any extra coolers.
I had an old mechanic (rest his soul) once tell me not to worry about low oil pressure that seemed too low. He said that as long as you have pressure, you're getting lubrication. He went on to say you can worry if the pressure was too high. The engine in question was a 1960's chevy 235 ci. I would think the same is true today.
I had another mechanic tell me that he installed a tranny temp gauge because he hauled a travel trailer. And that tranny fluid begins to break down at 275 dgsf (I think that was the number), but regardless, he said that he was surprised at how hot the tranny ran and so installed additional transmission coolers.
yeah i guess its ok ! just wondering what other people read on there gauges!my old 6.2 runs at the same oil pressure and has over 200.000 miles. and it had a trans gauge on it to,on long hills it would reach 200 degrees ferenheight. after replaceing 2 transmission i would keep an eye on it.
just went to a convert site and 80 degrees is 176 degrees should be ok for a real hot day.and 85 = 185. when going on holiday i left after supper and it was cooler , the gauge was around 73 degrees and i had one long hill it climb too 83 degrees. which i think is ok. anybody see diffrent numbers.
