I drive a 2002 GMC Sierra with the vortec 4.3L engine. My check engine light has been tripping randomly for the past few months with the same code: P0327. I know that this code is for the knock sensor. Do I need to replace the sensor? Or is there simply bad wiring somewhere? The truck runs fine weather or not the check engine light is on. Any input is appreciated!

Replace the sensor and inspect the wire harness, the Knock sensor is what times your engine. Your Vortec is Electronically timed in advance and is timed back electronically but the output readings from your knock sensor to your PCM.

Your engine performance will turned down from the timing being turned back. The timing will not be advanced again till your next engine start up. You may not notice any performance lost if the timing is a small adjustment, but if it's a large adjustment. You will notice performance lost.

Good luck and if you can get a hold of a Tech2 scanner, have your Sierra checked out while it's being driven and see what the scanner is reading from the PCM's input from the sensors thought out the engine.:D
