Hello, I have a 1996 GMC Sub 5.7l Vortec 4x4. The color is Emerald Green Metallic. The hood and roof are badly oxidized. I am considering buying a parted out Sub's hood and replacing it altogether. The existing hood is perfect besides the paint oxidation.
Is it worth $150 for a parted out hood and leaving the roof alone?
or
Is it better to go to a splash and dash place like Maaco, or worse yet, spray paint the mf primer or flat black myself because aside from the aesthetics, she runs great with 240k/mi.
Keeping cost as low as possible means flat black/primer spray paint for the hood, and a close enough match of green for the roof. Or Maaco charging whatever they charge? Or a Craigslist part out near by for $150.
Any suggestions on sanding and primering would be helpful, or if someone has done it and knows the true costs associated with Maaco, or if a 1999 Chevy Sub hood would even fit my 96 GMC Sub would be greatly appreciated!
