Hello,

I am considering buying a new sierra 1500 and tundra, but I wanted to know from you owners how is the reliability and maintenance on your trucks new or older trucks. I never owned a truck. Thanks for sharing your experience!

GM trucks

if you are looking for a GM sierra be sure to do your research well, you will get a good idea of what the problems are by checking through this forum on GM's that are anywhere from 1 to 8 years old, one of biggest problems seems to be early rusting, then decide for yourself, I have a 2009 Z71 short box 4x4 with 138,000 km and I have repaired the bottom of 1 door and now am waiting to get the bottom of another door done, I also had a large rust spot behind the drivers rear wheel well done. you should get a good idea of what GM will do for you. I contacted GM and they told me I was under the mileage warranty but was 6 months past the time limit so nothing they would do.

Thanks for the info. Do you know what is the caused by the rust? Do you live in the east coast where it snows alot?

I live in Canada, Province of New Brunswick, the rust is forming between the paint and the metal there are no signs of cracked paint etc, finally the paint falls off exposing bare rusted metal, it is happening at the bottom of the doors where it is hidden by the rubber they put at the bottom of the door to reduce road noise, check the post here for Paint falling off truck for pictures.

Do you think the cause of the rust is from the salt treatment of the snow?
THanks
