i have a 2000 sierra z 71 that i purchased in July of last year. 140,000 miles and ever since, I have heard a wining noise coming from which i think is the power steering pump. the noise doesn't get any louder when i turn the wheel, in park or driving. Just a steady buzz that has bugged the heck out of me and it's time i fix it.

I suppose the fluid may not ever been flushed. When i recently had the oil changed, they noted the color was dark. Question: if the pump is going out, does it somehow cause the fluid to get dirty or could the fluid have tweaked the pump because it was never flushed?

I suppose I can save some money if I can find a pump at a wreaking yard but then ya don't want to mess around with the steering; it could cost someone's life!

what am i looking at price range IF i need a new pump and have it all flushed out good? Thanks
