I did a search of old threads and couldn't seem to find one that outlined this problem so please excuse me if this has been discussed before.

Recently, my 2005 Jimmy driver side window would go all the way down and when i went to "roll" it back up, it would stop halfway and I would have to give it a little pull and it would roll all the way up. Even more recently, it wouldn't roll up from even a quarter way. And now, when I hit the button either up or down, it makes this horrible grinding noise.

So my dilemma is:

Should I attempt to repair this myself or is this a symptom of a bigger problem in that the regulator as well as motor are probably fried? I asked the shop what they would charge and he said minimum $800. Hence why I am considering repairing it myself even though I am far from being, as they say, "handy."

My thought is that I should at least take the door panel off and take a peek, maybe it just needs some WD-40. Haha.

Anyhoo, any input would be much appreciated!

It isn't too difficult but you will need to drill out rivets to remove the motor. That is the hardest part and get the right size and length bolts to replace the rivets. You need a manual (auto parts store) to kind of help you through some of the peculiarities but it isn't too tough at all.

Thanks very much for your response! Will a Lordco suffice for that type of assistance?

don't use wd40 on the channel, food grade silicon or a dab of liquid soap is better. but it sounds like you motor may be weak. it's not hard to change just do as the above post says with the bolts in place of rivets (if you don't have access to a 1/4" rivet gun) but use lock nuts. if you're in N.J. i can help you

thank again! I am actually in Vancouver Canada so a bit of a ways from NJ. Still haven't attempted it, too worried that I'm going to make it worse. Will let you all know how it goes. Thanks again!
