So I put new drums and shoes on and not even 20K miles (less than 2 years) the drums egged on me. So bad they could not be fixed on the lathe. Advance Auto warrantied them for me and I put a new pair of drums on. So hear I am again with egged drums after not even 20K miles again (not even a year and a half). Is this a cheap drum issue, or a braking issue with my vehicle? My parents had a 79 and 83 Caprice both with over 200K miles and I dont remember ever changing the drums. any input would be great. Thanks. Oh and if it is a cheap drum issue, what's a good place to buy drums at?

For what its worth from a roundtable discussion at my house -

Sounds like excessive heat is causing drums to warp .

Shoes not fully retracting or wheel bearings heating up ?

I'll go with the shoes not fully retracting. The last two days I have been hearing a rub at idle speed when I let off the brakes and I can change the sound by slightly applying the E brake. I am going to do a full hardware change on the brakes and see what I get. That will get me through the next 2 years at least. Thanks
