I have 2010 Sierra 1500 with the rear parking assist. My problem is with the Reese hitch installed it messes up the sensors for the "park assist" I have to clear the message on the DIC every time. I want to leave the hitch in the receiver but having to clear the message every time on the DIC is a pain. Can this system be disabled so I don't get the message "park assist disabled" every time ? I talked to the dealership and they were no help.

Press and hold the check-mark (reset) button. The bottom button on the dash will take care of the Park Assist Off message. It should automatically turn itself on if you don't have anything in the sensor's range (hitch or tailgate down). I wish the range could be adjusted so a hitch won't effect it. I keep my dad's Yukon off in the Summer for him so he doesn't keep taking the hitch off and losing it somewhere in the garage.

I held down the check button and the message cleared but when I re-started the truck, the same message displays again. Did you do something different?

It did at first and then ofter the first time i reset it, it never comes back on till i removed the hitch and the Yukon reset it self it self again. Here is the TSB for the issue on the parking assist:

Subject: Park Asisst Off Message On DIC - keywords assist hitch indicator inop inoperative message off park rear reese sensor ultra ultrasonic URPA #PIT4198A - (12/03/2007)

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:
Some customers may state that the " Parking Assist Off" message is appearing on the Drivers Information Center (DIC) at times. If the vehicle has a trailer hitch and it is installed into the trailer hitch receiver, the rear park assist will disable the system until the trailer hitch is removed and the vehicle is driven forward above 15 MPH.

Recommendation/Instructions:
This is normal operation of the system.

Note: Please note that any object that is installed in the receiver hitch or extending from the rear of the vehicle when the vehicle was last driven and the vehicle is shut off will disable the rear Park Assist until the object is removed and the vehicle is driven forward above 15 MPH.

Park Assist while trailering....

Curious - why is the park assist disabled message displayed when the truck is in drive going forward)? I only care if it is enabled or disabled when the truck is put into reverse....
