There is a switch on the transmission.

You should heck it properly.On the transmission there is a switch.I hope by this your problem has been solved.

Look for a plug with wires going in to the transmision

then what? pull them out?

Check for broken wires, see if there is power going to the switch, and finaly if power comes out when your vehicle is in reverse.
