seat back recliner

My 2003 regular cab with split bench seat will not lock into position . The release lever appears to be fine . I have had no luck finding a diagram or exploded view of the internal locking mechanism . Has anyone else experienced this problem and if so how did you fix it ? Appreciate any help you can give me . It is very uncomfortable to drive this way . Thanks , RON .

Are you saying that the seat moves front to back and will not lock, or are you having problems with the seat back?

If it's the seat base then I would suggest that you un-bolt the seat assembly and remove it from the truck. This will give a much better view as to what is doing or not doing. I would be looking for a spring that is dis-connected or has broken end.

Sorry I did not read close enough you already said that it is the seat back. There should be pawl and sector segment that locks the back into a postion. The dog is either worn or the spring that locks the dog into place is broken. The only way that you are going to see this is to remove the seat assembly and then remove the upholstry. If you google search upholstry removal you might be able to find what you need.

I am looking at buying something different than a gm pickup . I have never owned a vehicle that is more difficult to find information on . I can`t find a picture , diagram or any information at all on the recliner mechanism inside the seat . Everything always comes up about the handles . That is not the problem . I can`t even find one for sale online . Time to get rid of this lemon . RON
