I'm looking at a new Sierra 2500HD to replace my 2004 2500HD.

I built a new truck order with my salesman and wanted to order the optional side air bags (Head, thoracic, etc) knowing that being broadsided was one of the more common accidents around and really looking forward to the extra protection.

Imagine my surprise/anger when I found out that GMC will not let you order this option unless you order the heated/cooled perforated leather seat option. What the hell do heated/cooled, perforated seats have to do with a safety issue like additional air bags.

Am I the only person who considers this an asinine rip off by GMC to force you to buy a separate, totally unrelated option to get extra safety?

glo69,
Apologies for a delayed response on our end. I checked into this in my resources available on the 2500HD and this is true for the SLT trim only - the work truck and SLE trims do not require heated or cooled seats to order the additional airbags.

Let us know if you have further questions!

Does anyone have experience with putting on replacement leather seat covers and having an issue with seat air bags? I am going to purchase leather seat covers for my 2008 GMC Sierra from http://www.leatherseatcoverhq.com and wanted to hear others experience before I proceed. From all that I have read the seat covers are compliant with the use of seat airbags.
