Hello guys. I was wondering if anyone could help me. I have a 2002 sonoma4x4. The problem i'm having is that the vehicle stalls when i come to a stop sign. This started all of a sudden. Every time i come to a stop or slow down to make a turn it stalls. Some times when i put the truck in park it will stall also. After driving for about a half hour it stops stalling. The truck runs fine when on open highway. Please please help.

Maybe needs tune up. If so, make sure you use ac delco parts. Also, do a search on here for seafoam. A treatment might help. Clean out intake with carb cleaner or "deep creep". Remove and clean sensor on the intake....forget at the moment what this is called....maybe IAC??

Ok now i'm really confused. Today i went out to start it. It started fine but whenever i put it in gear it stalled. I restarted it and backed out of the driveway. going down the road all my guages started flashing on and off and everything in the insterment pannel went bizerk tach jumped up and down and when i came to a stop the truck shut off. When i went to restart it i turned the key and nothing. I poped the hood and wiggled the positive terminal and the light under the hood lit up. I got back in and it started up but still stalled when comming to a stop. I drove it to work and one of the guys said that it might be a bad cell in the battery. I cleaned the connections (side mounts) and opened the battery and noticed that two of the cells were low and not as full as the other ones. I filled them up and started the truck. It idles fine. My question is can the battery be causing my symptoms or by unhooking the battery did i temporally hide the problem by reseting the computer. Any help would be great. Thanks.

A bad battery can cause the issues your having, If he voltage drops below 10 Volts, your PCM will shut down your fuel pump and ignition system.

I have the same issues when i turn up my system and it draws more then what the charging system can handle. Time for a new battery here for me lol

Keep us posted and another area you should look in to would be checking if you have a bad ignition switch.

Ok. Yesterday I cleaned out the throttle body and tested the battery after i cleaned the terminals. The battery read 12v without load and around 14v with load. I drove it home last night with no problems. This morning i started it up and ran down to the store with no problems. Starting 1dle is about 1000rps give or take and after warmup it's around 600. Comming to a stop sign it reads about 500 or 600. I'm still wondering if by unhooking the battery it might of reset the computer leading to a temporary fix? Could this be possible? Another thing is that during this whole problem it never threw a code or check engine light? One more thing Molson02536 You said that a bad battery can cause my issues. Can a loose dirty battery terminal cause this also?

Your idle speed is right where it should be, there is a sticker on your fan shroud that will give you your idle information.

Yes a bad battery connection will also give you the issues you have mentioned. Keep up the great work and keep us posted. :o
